How i undervolt intel CPU to baby the weak power supply
What happened?
Power supply broke (135w), i had a weak one (65w) from before did the upgrade from i5 to i7, so i am just going to use that on the power hungry i7.
note:
Btw stock laptop firmware wont even let you boot into the OS with a PSU less than 95w with an i7 like mine did, this security feature has been overwritten because i hacked the firmware 😂😂😂😎😎😎
The mods so i dont blow up the PSU!
Look up on github intel undervolt, if you have arch or gentoo there is a package for that.
I put on /etc/inter-undervolt.conf:
enable yes
undervolt 0 'CPU' -30
undervolt 1 'GPU' -30
undervolt 2 'CPU Cache' -30
undervolt 3 'System Agent' -30
undervolt 4 'Analog I/O' -30
power package 60 64
When i run intel-undervolt read
it shows:
CPU (0): -30.27 mV
GPU (1): -30.27 mV
CPU Cache (2): -30.27 mV
System Agent (3): -30.27 mV
Analog I/O (4): -30.27 mV
Short term package power: 60 W, 0.001 s, enabled
Long term package power: 64 W, 28.000 s, enabled
While doing some compiling to see if the CPU is indeed using 40w, temperatures stayed around 50c and the power brick also showed normal temperature in the hand termometer.
(riiiight there are the low botton right corner you can see at high load it stayed at 53c)
